A deadly shooting occurred during the \u201cChanukah by the Sea\u201d event, where around 1,000 members of Sydney\u2019s Jewish community had gathered at Archer Park near Bondi Beach to mark the first night of Hanukkah. Two attackers opened fire on the crowd from a pedestrian bridge above. Authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack motivated by antisemitism, making it one of the deadliest acts of violence in Australia\u2019s recent history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At around 6:45 p.m. local time, the suspects\u2014both wearing black clothing\u2014began shooting at the crowd from an overhead pedestrian bridge. Witnesses said the first sounds resembled fireworks or balloons popping, before dozens of gunshots followed, causing panic and chaos among families and attendees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police in New South Wales Police responded within minutes. During an exchange of gunfire, one attacker, aged 50, was shot dead. Government and Community Response<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the shooting as \u201can act of evil driven by hatred and antisemitism,\u201d saying Australia will not tolerate violence, hate, or discrimination. He also announced a review of firearm ownership laws and licensing, along with stronger security measures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns expressed solidarity with the victims and urged unity against hate and violence. He confirmed that police patrols and security protections for the Jewish community have been increased across the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
