According to information published as of 9.43 am on 12 October, Spirit of Queensland services were affected in both directions. The service is a major passenger rail connection between Brisbane and Cairns.

Queensland Rail has arranged replacement buses for passengers affected by the disruption. Anyone travelling in the coming days should check the status of their train and the replacement arrangements before going to the station, as services may change.

Meanwhile, the national rail safety regulator is investigating the freight train derailment. No conclusions should be drawn about its cause until the findings are released.

The disruption is particularly significant for passengers who rely on rail for long-distance travel in Queensland. People with tickets, or those planning to travel on affected routes, should obtain the latest journey information from Queensland Rail before setting off.
