Australia’s Prime Minister has announced that King Abdullah II of Jordan will visit Australia on 13 and 14 October. The official visit is expected to include discussions on defence and security cooperation, humanitarian efforts, counterterrorism, trade, energy and regional security.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the visit on Monday, 12 October. The Jordanian King’s visit comes as security developments in the Middle East remain on the agenda of governments in the region and their international partners.
According to the Australian Government, the talks are expected to cover a broad range of bilateral and regional issues. Defence and security cooperation, humanitarian assistance and action, counterterrorism, trade and energy are among the topics scheduled for discussion.
Jordan’s geographical location and regional role mean it is directly affected by many of the Middle East’s crises. The regional security discussions in Canberra may therefore be of interest to Middle Eastern communities in Australia, including Iranians and other Persian speakers.
King Abdullah II’s visit is scheduled for 13 and 14 October. Further details will become clear if a joint statement is issued or specific decisions are announced following the talks.
